ABOUT SIGMA

MASTERING OPTICS

Sigma is a Japanese manufacturer of photographic lenses and cameras. Our production is based entirely in Japan, with our headquarters in Kanagawa and our factory in Aizu, Fukushima.

We have been a family-owned company since our founding by Michihiro Yamaki in 1961. Today, Sigma is managed by his son, Kazuto Yamaki. It is this independence that allows us to explore different approaches and pursue our ideal of craftsmanship.

Our Aizu factory was established in 1973. To this day, it remains Sigma's sole manufacturing base, with every step of production – from initial concept to optical engineering, product assembly, quality control and even parts sourcing – taking place in Japan. Although not without its challenges, this conscious decision ensures seamless collaboration across departments and partner companies, quick response times and rigorous quality control at every stage of production. Our deep ties to the Tohoku region, particularly Aizu, have allowed us to become part of the local community, to support its culture, to advance local technology, and to nurture the expertise of our employees.

We believe in quality and innovation without compromise. Every single lens, camera and accessory is manufactured to meet our high expectations. For more than sixty years, we have continued to set new standards in photographic equipment, and provide photographers and filmmakers with powerful and long-lasting tools to realize their creative visions.

Sigma values diversity and the freedom of everyone to create and express themselves through art. The continued expansion of our sales and service network reflects this perspective. As a global company, we embrace universal human values and strive to contribute to the well-being and happiness of people in every region where we operate.

THE ART OF ENGINEERING. ENGINEERING FOR ART.

Over the past two centuries, photography has become an ever closer part of our daily lives. Yet despite its ubiquity, the act of photography remains profoundly fascinating: a fleeting moment captured and preserved through a synthesis of optical, chemical, and digital processes. Each photograph reflects a personal way of seeing the world and is as unique as its creator.

Our manufacturing philosophy is motivated by this inexhaustible nature of photography. We strive to push beyond existing boundaries to provide photographers and filmmakers with the best possible cameras and lenses to express their vision.
